As Vice President of autism awareness club the 5k is the biggest event of the year that we have. This year was a huge success even if I was basically living in the center for the past week! On Thursday a bunch of volunteers including myself were at the center for about 3 hours. One of our tasks was sorting shirts...you would think that nothing weird or bad could happened with this...well you were wrong. One person would count the shirts and the other would fold. I was working with my friend Lindsay, she was folding and I was counting. While I was counting, I somehow ended up flicking shirts her way. Most of them hitting her in the face. I managed to form such a big pile of shirts between us that we started a game of shirt volleyball in the center hallway! That was only one of the many things we had to do in order to prepare for the 5k! We all got super hungry that night and ended up stealing 30 chicken fingers from the caf! I think we looked quite funny running across campus with all that food...but don't forget the ketchup and bbq sauce! Friday was the day before the race, I was in the center for 5 hours, but then I told them I had to leave when they went to give me more work! That night I tried going to bed early because I had to be up so early for the event...sadly I couldn't sleep! I kept getting out of bed packing more things that I needed to bring to the 5k! I must have got one hour of sleep that night tops! I was up sitting in my common room when my suitemate got back from bartending...that's when you know you have sleeping problems! I was up and ready at the Autism center at 6am Saturday morning running around like a maniac. I ran back and forth between the library lawn and the center so many times that I think I ran a 5k! Everything was set up by the time the rest of the club volunteers got there and I was still not tired surprisingly! Once everyone got their volunteer shirts we had to line the fun run! I somehow always end up running the fun run with the kids but I always have fun! After that we went on to run the kids games while the 5k run/walk started! I was a little upset that I never got my captains shirt after all the hard work I put in to this event but it was a political thing. Overall the whole event was fun and it was a huge success! I'm glad I was a part of raising money for such a great cause! Hope everyone had as much fun as I did, even if you were working hard. I CAN'T WAIT TO INTERN AT THE CENTER! Thank you to everyone who helped out!
